Come sail away

Outfit Details:

tee - H&M, skirt - Lands End Canvas, shoes - Banana Republic, necklace - Forever 21

Shopping in Canada definitely has it's drawbacks. We are deprived of some of my favourite American stores like J.Crew, Ann Taylor, Lands End Canvas, Piperlime, US Amazon... I could go on and on. Of the stores that do ship across the border, the extra costs can be insanely expensive and I hate the "unknown" of not knowing how much customs will slap on as duties/taxes/etc. Not to mention, there's the extra hassle of returning if the item doesn't work out. But once in a while, sometime comes up that I'd really love to have at a price I don't mind paying. In that case, I ship to my top secret connection (shh... that means my friends and relatives who live in the US and will bring back or ship to me) and take a leap of faith.

Case in point, this skirt for Lands End Canvas. It was the first item that I ever ordered from them. I had the page bookmarked forever, stalking prices and pouring over the sizing reviews. But the risk of ordering something that didn't work for me scared me away. When this skirt hit their "classifieds" page during the fall for $7.50, who could resist hitting the submit button?

Well, it turned into one of my favourite purchases for the season. Not a huge surprise since it has so many of my favourite elements.

Nautical? check
Whimsical? check
Full-skirted? check

Basically, it is awesomeness in skirt form.

So maybe it was a sign when I decided to pull out this skirt today because not long after, I found myself deliberating on whether or not I should order from the Leifsdottir sale. (DH will attest that I spend way too much energy shopping or thinking about shopping). The prices points were irresistible and made my trigger finger itch. But spending money on a great deal that doesn't work for me is not a deal at all. I finally decided that the shape, print and price point of this dress...

Leifsdottir dress

was enough to put me over the edge. It'll soon be on it's way to my uncle's place in Las Vegas. I probably won't see it until August (boo). Hope it's worth the wait!

Love the skirt and the dress. That dress would have been one of my picks as well :) Even if it doesn't work out perfectly for you, you should be able to alter it pretty easily, and not for too much either?

*sorry, had a rather bad typo in the first post :(

I love the simplicity of your new header. Adore. I'm convinced I must check out Lands End Canvas. I didn't know you were Canadian. I am often amazed by the ingenuity that must be utilized to get the things you want. Does not seem fair. I sympathize, because I must have everything shipped too. But with much less expense. The out fit is fabulous. And too think you paid 7.50 for the skirt. But oh the long wait to get the Leifsdottir Dress!

I am obsessed with that Leifsdottir dress!! It's so pretty and I can't wait to see it on you. My size is long gone so I will have to live vicariously through you. I'm with you on stressing out about duty fees, taxes, and shipping to get my stuff over to Canada. Sometimes I've been charged almost the same amount as the cost of my item just for duty fees. Sick! BTW - adore your skirt, and the cute sleeves on your top remind me of the Time Gone By dress :)

Ooh, I'm scared of Leifsdottir... such beautiful stuff but way out of my price range. The skirt you got is gorgeous though, definitely worth the trouble!

@Jess - I think your right and it would be an easy thing to tailor. The elastic waist and way the dress curves looks like it would be forgiving... at least I'm hoping so!

@Laura - Thanks! Yes, the things we Canadians have to go through to get our things. I am literally 1 hour from the border, yet shipping/duties/taxes can cost almost as much as the item itself. Blah!

@Carolyn - Thanks so much!

@Carly - That's exactly it. I get so stressed out worrying about the "real" cost of an item that it's pretty much not worth buying anymore unless I ship to a US address. I will post pics of the dress when I get it!

@Law Mama - I love Leifsdottir, but the prices are usually way out of reach for me. I got lucky with this dress as it's not much more than Old Navy! :)

@Jessica - My friend who lives next door is obsessed with that song. I only know the "Come sail away" part too though LOL

I spend way too much energy online shopping and making decisions too. Ahh, I would be so much productive at work otherwise :) Love your shoes! I'm definitely getting the nautical but feminine vibe from your outfit.

have you ever read "Lily and the Purple Plastic Purse"? In it she keeps saying "Wow, that's just about all she could say, Wow!" That's how I feel about this outfit. And $7.50, that makes me weep - you did awesome!!

I love anything nautical themed! This outfit is just wonderful. I am particularly enjoying longer length skirts for the summer with patterns. I can't believe it was only 7.50!? Lucky find! xx

Your outfit is so cute! I am shocked at how much time I spend shopping online these days (usually window shopping). It's just... fun.
