Outfit of the day: polka dot blouse and lace skirt

Outfit Details:

blouse - H&M, cardigan - Old Navy, skirt - Larry Levine (via Winners), shoes - Steve Madden, necklace - Target

I don't know what's the matter with me.  For the past 2-3 weeks, I have been unable to sleep more than 6 1/2 hours a night, even on the weekends.  I wake up feeling exhausted, but can only doze until I finally rouse myself out of bed.  It's not insomnia because I have no trouble falling asleep... the problem is staying asleep after I've had the minimum number of hours my body needs to function.  Too much on my mind I suppose. Unsurprisingly, I woke up early and exhausted again... and I do believe I'm fighting a cold (sore throat, foggy brain).

I needed something to pick me up this morning, so I choose an outfit that made me feel especially pretty.  (By the way, am I the only one who does things like that? DH dresses like a slob when he's tired or down or stressed. I'm the total opposite and dress in an effort to improve my mood.)  I paired it with a black lace pencil skirt and pale pink cardigan that would compliment the softness of the blouse without overpowering it. I pulled out these shoes that I love, but which for no good reason, I haven't worn at all this season.

About 30 minutes into my work day, I was surprised to hear the doorbell ring. It was my good friend and neighbour from next door. She stopped for coffee this morning, and thought to bring me one just because. Very sweet of her, and just the pick me up I needed on this dreary morning (both weather and soul).

ohhhh, I adore your shoes, what are they called and where are they from? I have problem staying asleep too, I just toss and turn in bed till it's daylight. My mom takes melatonin (all natural) to help her stay asleep.
Hope you're feeling better =)

What a beautiful skirt! I love the lace a polka dots together:)

I hope you can get some good rest soon. I like to read for at least a few minutes before bed. It helps me stop thinking about my day and get into relaxation mode.

@Lisa - Thanks so much! The shoes are Steve Madden Ruffled from just over two years ago. I used to take melatonin year ago when I suffered from bouts of insomnia. Maybe I need to try it again.

@Rachel - Thank you!

@kristin - You know, I used to read regularly for anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour before bed. Having Maya caused me to inadvertently cut it out of my routine (was too exhausted in the early months) and I never got back into the habit. Thanks for the advice... I will be adding it back into my routine.

Not being able to sleep is the worst feeling :( I'm so sorry you're going through this. Are you sleeping late and waking up early? Can you change up your schedule and see if that will do anything? I've heard green tea before sleep is a good remedy too.

I'm loving the prettiness of today's outfit. I usually see polka dots paired with darker colors, so this is a very refreshing take on it!

It might sound silly but try an eye mask. It keeps your eyes covered so maybe you can stay asleep longer. I swear by it on the weekends when I want to recharge for the week. Feel better! Love the dots and lace BTW. Very feminine.

I completely agree with you- dress up when you're feeling bad. And that outfit is especially pretty :)

T, this outfit is absolutely lovely! The combo of pink with black and white polka dots and light tights and shoes is so romantic. The whole thing is sweet, feminine and fun. And yes, I too totally dress my best on days I'm feeling the worst, in an attempt to pep myself up!

Hope your stresses have calmed down a little by this point and you get a proper night's sleep soon btw!
