Yawn

Yesterday's attempt to sleep early was half successful.  DH made it to bed around midnight, and I shortly after him.  A little better than my previous night's bedtime of 1:15am.  (I'm shaking my head.  Seriously, what is wrong with me?)

Unfortunately, our sleep was interrupted by Maya coming into our room -- her little cheeks hot and pink around 1am.  Poor thing had a temperature.  One dose of Tylenol and 15 minutes later, she was asleep in our bed.  But of course, being a paranoid mama of a preschooler, I slept pretty lightly and kept checking her temperature with my hand every time I woke up.

She's better now, temperature almost back to normal, but she'll be home from school from the day.

It was super dark outside this morning, and that coupled with my tired state resulted in the slightly off leg wear.  I thought I was pulling on a pair of grey tights, but they actually turned out to be olive green.  Ah well, I think they still go.

Morning madness

For some reason, mornings in my family are always chaotic.  I think it's because we are made up of a bunch of night owls vs. early birds.  I stay up much later than I should, and ignore the fact that I an exhausted and should go to bed.  (Because apparently, I'd much rather watch bad TV).  Maya fights bedtime claiming that she's not tired and "is it wake up time yet?" until the moment before she conks out.

And then of course, every morning, DH and I resolve that this morning routine is too tiring and stressful, and that tonight is the night that we go to bed early, and subsequently, wake up early.

Yah right!  We'll see if we stick to it tonight...

The look for less

Although I swear every fall/winter that I have more than enough coats to last me a lifetime, I can never resist adding a few to my collection.  Enter Old Navy.  I managed to snag a few when they went on super sale last week.  (I placed an order right away because I suspected that the outerwear Facebook coupon would cause Gap Inc. to raise the prices again.  I was right.  My Friday prices are cheaper than the price now... even WITH the code.)

Anyway, the mail person just dropped off my order and I am now sitting here debating between the yellow and orange. The yellow seems more fun, but I'm trying to figure out if I have yellow blinders on. The orange might be more flattering on my Asian skin (yellow undertones with pink cheeks).

And although I missed out on last year's J.Crew ruffle coat:

I think this is a good substitute.

The material is not the best quality nor the warmest, but I'll take it as a cute coat that will take me through fall and the warmer days of winter (or house to car days).

I've got the blues

It's probably not surprising to anyone who knows me that my favourite colour is blue. So I gravitate towards putting a lot of blue (all the different shades except pastel) in my wardrobe.

I once read an interview from a stylist (can't recall the one) who said that a person's favourite colour tends to be the one that they look best in. And I have to agree that I think blue is a shade that suits me well, especially saturated blues. Do you find that your favourite colour is also the one that you wear best?

What I've been buying

While it's true that there is proverbial dust on my blog, it definitely hasn't done anything to curb my love of shopping. In fact, I've done quite a bit of damage over the last two months. Yet, amazingly I'm still (mostly) within my budget.

A good majority of my shopping haul has come from the Gap. I blame it on two things.

1) Groupon which lured me back into their store in the first place.

2) Their newly launched Canadian online shopping site.

With regards to number two, I was surprised to see how good the prices were. The prices were much better in fact than the US counterpart. Also, I was a huge online shopper back when I lived in the States, but the number of online retailers in Canada is a fraction of what it was in the US. Not to mention, I refuse to ship across the border -- the thought of paying exorbitant amounts of duty and brokerage fees and shipping freak me out. Well, one click of the submit button on Gap Canada and I was back in business. I had actually forgotten how EASY it is to shop online. Almost too easy...

Just take a look at the damage:

Okay, so maybe the last two are from Old Navy.  They are actually my least exciting purchases, and I'm mostly keeping them because I think they'd make awesome sundresses from my upcoming Mexican vacation.  Plus, they make up the three "C"s -  cheap, comfy and cute.

Now the rest of the stuff, I am pretty stoked over.  I've had my eye on the sunburst ruffle dress ever since I saw it on Rosa. The purple version of it actually came in my second order, once I realized just how awesome that dress was. Plus, it came up to 22 dollars and some change.

I also discovered about six months ago, that Gap jeans fit me perfectly. No exaggeration. So they are my go-to place for all jeans, and have since taken my money for (after the October order) four pairs of perfect fitting denim.

Then of course, the Gap baited me back into the store by giving me the 40% Wednesday coupons while I was innocently buying Maya some clothes from Baby Gap. This prompted me to come into the store on two separate Wednesdays to buy these:

While I love the shirt (who can resist stripes and a cowlneck), the verdict is still out on the skirt. I think I chose it mainly for the gorgeous colour. And while I love the knife pleats in theory, I'm just not sure I love the shape of it on me. What are your thoughts on the skirt? Likey or no-likey?

And hoot hoot hoot goes the owl

That line is taken from one of Maya's favourite Dora books, and is probably one of the reasons why she bought me this necklace for my birthday last month. Just the fact that she picked it out "all by myself" is enough reason for me to love it. But I actually do think it's super cute, and is something I would absolutely pick for myself. I get compliments every time I wear it out. Either I've inadvertently influenced Maya into becoming a little fashionista, or it's in her blood.

While I'm sure you are just loving the fuzzy iPhone photos, hopefully I'll get into the habit of a real camera + tripod soon!

Where or where has overcaffeinated gone?

I'm back, hollar! I haven't disappeared forever -- just busy struggling with the daily demands of real life, and my newfound "shyness" at blogging. My darling husband has shared my blog address with several of our friends and even my Dad! So I was waiting for the fuss to die down, and for them to stop checking for updates on a regular basis already! I think they've kinda given up, so that means that I'm back.

I should probably get over my self-conciousness of real life people finding my blog right? Pretty much there reaction should be "T likes clothes? T likes shopping? T likes fashion? SHOCKING!"

Of course, the taking pictures of myself and posting them in a public setting is something that might be considered weird or narcissistic. Hmmm...

Since I've been blogging less, I've been reading blogs that much more. A new blog (to me) that I came across is Small Town Fashionista. Her girly style is wonderful, and best of all, she's a stylish mother of three! I love stylish moms as I can relate with my little one. Check out her amazing giveaway here.
