The skinny pants experiment

OOTD Apr 1 2010

OOTD Apr 1 2010

Outfit Details:

top - Joe Fresh, cardigan - J.Crew, necklace - Cleo, pants - Old Navy, shoes - Poetic License

Today is officially the first time I've attempted skinny pants since the 80s. (Of course, back then it was accompanied by an oversize graphic sweater, a million neon bracelets, lace headband a la Madonna. Oh, and I was 10. I probably got away with a lot of fashion crimes in those days.)

When I tried these on in Old Navy, I wasn't sure if the silhouette would work on me, but figured these were worth a try for $14 (gotta love those friends and family sales!).

With the boyfriend sweater to cover up the junk in the trunk, and heels to lengthen the look, I don't think it came out too badly. I'm sure DH will still say I look like a penguin, but what do boys know anyway! I'd rather know what you think.

My OOTD skills have apparently gone rusty. It took me 40, yes that's right 40, shots to finally come up with these two decent ones. Hopefully things will speed up once I get back into the swing of things.

I like 'em! I was admittedly dubious about the skinny pant thing at first as well (especially the jeggings incarnation that def. highlight, as you say, "the junk in the trunk" :) but I think, if done right, they offer a wonderful, streamlined look. They also allow me, at least, to play with proportion. I love me a boyfriend cardigan too and the slim leg seems to make it a little less baggy and frumpy, whereas a bootleg I can pair with a shorter, tighter cardy. By the way, I love all your cardigans!

I like them a lot! I think it's possible for skinny jeans to work on a lot more people than think it.

You look great! The proportions of the shorter tee & longer cardigan work really well with these.

'What everyone else said. And also, 'so glad you're back. I really enjoy your style - but not in a stalkerish way!

I think this outfit looks fantastic on you. The long cardigan helps to balance the skinny jeans. And that necklace is gorgeous!

welcome back! :) I love the colors of this outfit–I think I am seriously missing some bright shoes and sweaters! Great find on those Old Navy pants too! I need new work pants–you've inspired me to try those out!

I am on the same page with you. I have a bunch of skinnies that i tuck into boots but I am still iffy on the whole skinny jeans without boots look.

I find it funny that both you and Chloe ventured into skinny jeans territory with the exact same pair of ON zipper pants. Makes me want to try them too!

I think yours look good on you, I like how you paired it with a looser top/cardigan. I am totally in love with your style! :)

I'd call this experiment a success! You look long and lean in the pants and heels combo. Love the hints of blue, too.
