What I wore: holding out

I have a confession to make.  I've been a bit of a bad blogger and been holding out on you.  I actually have a HUGE backlog of outfit pictures that I've taken and just haven't shared.  There's no good reason except pure laziness.

Let's play catch-up... and I will try to be a better sharer from now on.  Promise... cross my heart, hope to die, stick a finger in my eye.  (Note: I did say "try"!)

(The first two are from the weekend, so they are quite recent. The rest... well, the past month or two... )

.... WHEW!

What I wore: Happy Anniversary!

Friday was Mo (DH) and my 11th anniversary.  That's right kids... I've been married 11 years.  Why yes, I am an old lady.  But to my defense, we married right out of college so in reality, I'm not quite geriatric yet!

To celebrate, we dropped Maya off at my in-laws and went for dinner at Cucci. Now living in New York City for nine years has made me a bit of a food snob. But I'm glad to report that the food was fabulous. The rack of lamb was especially tasty and the best I've had... EVER!

For such a special night, it deserved one of my favourite DVFs, my beloved red epi LV speedy that DH bought me for our 9th anniversary, and the Bettye Muller peeps that DH surprised me with two birthday's ago.

A little bit of this, a little bit of that

When I put together this outfit on Sunday, I actually got a little thrill.  It has an interesting mix of elements: vintage-inspired printed ruffle blouse, pleated black skirt, belt with a slightly western feel, my beloved hobo, and my latest purchase... gladiator flat sandals.

The idea of it sounds like a total hodge podge, but I think it came together very well in execution.  This lovely blouse hasn't seen the light of day in over a year.  For some reason, I rarely reach for my button-downs.  It just never seems like it'll be as comfortable as a knit.  It's a shame really because I do love the sweet print and the pretty little ruffles on this shirt.  And as I discovered yesterday, this button-down is as comfy as a knit.

Hello again!

I know it's been ages since I last posted.  I have been taking pictures of my outfits, having fun putting it all together, etc etc... but since the beautiful summer weather has arrived, I just haven't had the motivation to write anything.

Here goes my first attempt to rectify the situation.

I've taken up sewing.  So far, I've made only a few things.  A skirt that looks pretty, but I don't expect to hold up past a few washes.  I made the skirt (freehand, no pattern) before I discovered that you should overlock you seams and double fold your hems to prevent the fabric from fraying.  Oh well, at least it looks pretty nice for now!  I also made an apron for Maya using the leftover fabric I had, and I am halfway through a top.

Besides that, I've been busy altering up a storm of previously too long or too big clothing.  I just finished taking in an adorable skirt that I wore to host a BBQ for my in-laws, Dad and his girlfriend.  I felt cute, and stylish and comfortable in it.  Triple hurray!  (I <3 my sewing machine!)

The blurry little shorty in the photo is Maya. As soon as she saw me standing in front of the mirror taking a picture, she ran up and demanded I take her photo. She is a fashionista/diva in the making! On another note, she just mastered turning the doorknob to open the door. Uh oh... time to lock up my sewing room!
